Serial ATA (or SATA) has been designed as a replacement for the existing 40 way IDE cable. The SATA connector and cable are smaller (which improves air circulation) and with a reduced operating voltage and pin count (7 as opposed to 40).

This dual port SATA backplate plugs directly on to the SATA controller of your motherboard or PCI host controller card. Ideal for use with Serial ATA enclosures.
